About Me- Following a teaching career in New York public schools and universities, I moved to the Augsburg/Munich area in 1998 to become a freelance English trainer. My background in foreign language teaching goes hand in hand with my own passion for learning languages. In addition to German, I speak
French and Spanish very well, and I can get along in Italian and Portuguese. Yet most of my students specialize in business,
manufacturing, science or mathematics, so I’ve adapted my own skills to complement theirs.
Technical and Business English- I spend a lot of time listening to students while they explain. I make suggestions, and we practice them together. Mastery Learning is the key to language success for adults as well as children, because you can only perform well in situations that you have practiced many times. I will coach you, beginning with the simple things and gradually moving into more challenging areas.
You’ll feel confident when using English. It’ll be fun!
Everyday English-
The challenge of demonstrating communication skills to working people makes every day a discovery - as well as being fun! If you too enjoy engineering, manufacturing, project management or business administration, I’ll share those interests with you and show you how English for communication works. I’ll learn all I can from you and teach you how to do what you are already doing... but in English! Many students are worried that they'll need to master every bit of grammar and all the vocabulary in order to work effectively in an English-speaking environment. But as soon as communicative abilities improve, they are surprised to discover how much they already know.
How to use what you know effectively? I can help!
Translation Services- I encourage students to write and edit simple texts, like e-mails, directly in English, but all of my students have access to my translation services as well. We can either edit and translate together or special arrangements can be made to have documents translated at a reasonable cost. Typical translation projects include work instructions for production, specifications, manuals, job applications and resumés, brochures, business correspondence, and much more. Your project may be highly specialized, but don’t worry! I’ll be sure I understand exactly what it is you’re doing so that your texts are translated the way informed native speakers would write them. I'll train you in the English you need in order to achieve your goals.
When it really counts, I’ll see to it that your English is perfect!
Getting Started- My personal strengths lie in my attention to detail, my inexhaustible interest in learning new things and my desire to help students succeed. Obviously, I’m not trying to be all things to all people, because not all English training is the same! Over the past three decades I have seen English training become a major industry. With so many new methods out there for learning English, you have to take a closer look. Some of them are new and exciting, but there’s also a lot of “old wine in new skins.” Just ask questions, and remember: no two English learners are the same, either! If you’re working in a company, large or small, and you’ve tried learning English other ways, you will enjoy my personalized English training for business and technology.
